Dramatic nighttime lighting for Bride & Groom Portraits

Not every wedding offers a photographer the perfect lighting for the important images they need to create. Most often the lighting circumstances are the least desirable. Summertime weddings bring many times when we are shooting straight into the sunlight or completely lacking a shaded place for photos. Winter weddings bring their own challenges when it is dark so early. Many couples want to have their ceremonies later in the day and then if we are unable to do a “First Look” we often find ourselves working in the dark for those special Bride & Groom alone images.

When circumstances in lighting really test our skills, we LOVE to rise up to meet that challenge! Working with high end cameras capable of working beautifully in low light and some off camera lighting, we are able to bring something dramatic and artistic to those images.

We recently ran into this situation in  San Diego’s Balboa Park last weekend. By the time the ceremony and family photos were finished, it was dark.. and cold!  The park was beautifully lit for the Holidays and we had a great time pulling the look of those lights into our couples photos.

Cheers to making Lemonade out of Lemons!
