Bold, dramatic, unique, and filled with emotion describe Heather Middleton’s Photography.  Her work spans complex as well as whimsical subjects, creating an individual mood for each.

Heather is a professional photographer whose work has gained recognition in the past few years.  Her images have been accepted into numerous juried competitions in San Diego and throughout the US, and she has received awards and acclaim for her creative work in photography.  Heather was invited to show her work and curate an art exhibition at the 2003 Super Bowl held in San Diego, CA.   Her work is included in collections in Europe as well as in the U.S.

Sometimes, basic black and white just isn't enough.  Using artist’s oils, she enhances her black and white photographs with splashes of raw color. On some images, unexpected additions make a black and white photograph pop out as a 3 dimensional image. Each image is hand printed and signed by the photographer, and is limited to an edition of no more than fifteen.

The art of digital montage began for Heather in 2002 allowing her imagination to fuel her art in ways she never imagined. Each montage is created from the photographer’s hand printed images, and then printed on archival photographic paper. On some images, color is added with artist oils.

“Photography is my way of telling a story using the abstraction of black and white film to remove the colors of everyday life. I find my work constantly evolving as I develop or discover new techniques, and am always searching for new ways to express that perfect idea that haunts my imagination.”

Look for a solo show of Heather's most current work at her solo show at the San Diego Art Institute in Balboa Park. Artists reception and opening, September 15th, 2006.
