Details, details, details! Someone once said that beauty is in the details. While that might be arguable, details can push any event, particularly a wedding, over the top in impact. This wedding at the US Grant Hotel in Downtown San Diego is a case in point. Going with the idea that the reception area used to be a speakeasy in the Roaring '20s, the couple wanted to go with a Gatsby theme for their wedding. The black and gold colors with champagne accents was absolutely stunning. The guests were greeted by wait-staff standing in two rows just inside the door with trays of champagne for each of them. It was a scene almost out of the Belle Epoch!
The lighting in room was gorgeous so the biggest challenge was to show those stunning details and still bring the beautiful ambient light into each image. This photo was shot with the Canon 5D mkIII which has amazing low light abilities, shooting extremely noise free images at light levels so low, it's hard to even see, sometimes. We used our then-new Tamron 15-30 f2.8 VS lens, an amazingly sharp, distortion free wide angle zoom that as vibration stabilization which helps even more getting shots hand held in low light.
