We love black and white images. Our background as wedding photographers is in fine art photography and monochrome is a staple of that genre. When we combine that with an emotional shot like this one, we just love it!
Victoria and Abel got married at the Prado in Balboa Park in San Diego, with the reception in one of the upstairs rooms that both overlooks the courtyard of the restaurant and has balconies that look out over the park itself. The room is very intimate with lots of beautiful wood and glass. It has a very historical feel to it, which is appropriate since the building is over a hundred years old.
This was shot with a Canon 5D mkIII and Canon 24-70 f2.8L with both on camera flash and an off camera flash set to camera left. Additional lighting augments the on camera one to give a more dramatic look, I think. The couple have a very vintage look, which again, fits the monochrome very well.
The Prado is one of San Diego's oldest and finest restaurants and, because it's in Balboa Park, has a lot of photographic possibilities. We love working there!
