Pantones color of the year

As I sit at my computer this morning drinking a nice warm Peppermint Mocha, I am thinking about shooting our last wedding of 2015 today and ahead to our 2016 season, I wondered what the new trends for 2016 might be. As a wedding photographer in the San Diego area I see a lot of beach themed weddings, and when I saw this article from Brides magazine, I thought these colors would be perfect with any beach themed or spring wedding!

According to Pantone, 2016 is the year pastels are making a comeback, and we’re not complaining! For the first time in its history of color forecasting, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2016 names not one, but two colors as next year’s big ones: Rose Quartz and Serenity.
The geniuses behind the color of the year turned to the biggest trend of 2015 — “mindfulness” — for 2016. “We wanted compassion, which today a lot of people are looking for,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone’s Color Institute, told the Wall Street Journal.
So what does that mean for all of you getting married in 2016? Ample opportunity, and plenty of time, to incorporate the calming colors into your big day. Just imagine this conversation with your bridesmaids:
Bridesmaid: What’s your wedding color?
You: Serenity.
It’s got stress free built right into the name. And mixed together, they kind of look like the most beautiful sunset!

We’ve seen pink wedding dresses come down the runways and aisles for years but maybe 2016 is the year this trend really takes over. Expect many more celebs to pull a Jessica Biel for their wedding day and opt out of traditional white. Or imagine walking down the aisle in a floating sky blue frock as designed by Naeem Khan, Claire Pettibone and Hayley Page. Talk about ethereal! And the best part, you don’t even need a something blue.

And your bridesmaids are in luck. Blush pink is flattering on everyone and such a delightfully sweet color palette. Imagine the bridesmaids in light pink while the groomsmen rock a powder blue suit. Or flip that to the girls in pale blue and the guys in light pink, very 1920s.

Edgier brides may want to jump on the celebrity trend and make these colors part of your hair look. From Nicole Richie to Kelly Ripa, Kaley Cuoco, Hilary Duff, and Kylie Jenner, pastel hair has been a rising trend among the star-set and wouldn’t it be just adorable on you and your girls for the bachelorette party weekend? Totally worth a try for the pictures alone.
