Engagement sessions San Diego-
Romantic Engagement Sessions San Diego …. Wondering if you really need an engagement session? Here are a few of our thoughts-
Planning a wedding is one of the most stressful, and enjoyable things you will ever do! Some brides have been planning this day since they were 10, but others are completely new to the world of weddings and planning.
While we really can’t be of too much help offering advice on the best flowers for your July wedding, we can offer you a few good tips about your photography! We have been wedding photographers in the San Diego area for 13 years and have oodles of great advice that we are happy to share!
Today I wanted to talk about engagement sessions, and why we feel they are a great idea, and do recommend them to all of our couples.
I think first and most important, this is a great opportunity for you and your photographers to get to know each other, and to get you comfortable with each other, and in front of the camera. For us so much of what we do is based on our couple’s personalities. Some are more serious, some more romantic, and others are just a bundle of silly and fun! It is the job of your photographer to know exactly who you are so they can create images that define that personality and that “Thing” that defines the two of you as a couple. This is what makes your images special, when they say who you are!
This couple was completely into the Country Western scene. The boxcar completely fit their personalities and interests.
Most people haven’t spent a whole lot of time in front of a camera, especially 2 cameras at once, if you have a photography team like we are, there will be at least 2 cameras on you all day long on the wedding day. Doing a fun relaxed engagement session allows you to begin to feel at ease with your photographers and having those 2 cameras pointed at you. Where do we look, what do we do? These are all questions that will fill your head, and may have you a little nervous before the session. A good experienced photographer will be able to settle all of those nerves and have you relaxed rocking it like an experienced Supermodel in no time.
Where should we do our session?
We always like to work with our couples to brainstorm and suggest the perfect location that may have something to do with where they met, where they went on their first date, maybe a sport or hobby they like to do together. If none of those suggestions bring ideas to your mind there are always more traditional locations like the beach, the park or downtown. Or maybe a combination of a couple.
Some of the most fun sessions we have done were Bowling Alley for the couple that always bowls, Home Depot for the couple that is completely into home renovating projects, and Proposal reenactments.
And a beach sunset… SWOON.. what could be more romantic? If you are going for a beach sunset look make sure your photographer understands and can handle this type of lighting well. It is beautiful but does take a certain level of skill and good equipment to achieve. We have been mastering sunset engagement sessions for years, they are one of our specialties!
What to wear?
We always offer our couples a choice of 2 locations that are near each other for their sessions. I love to suggest one casual look and then one dressy look, a cute cocktail dress and heels for her, and maybe a suit and tie of bowtie for his look. But the best answer is- Whatever defines the two of you best! These are once in a lifetime images, we love to make them look super special!
Now that you have all of those great images from your engagement session, how can you get the most use from them?
Save The Dates… YES!
What a great way to get the fun of the wedding kicked off than with a cute image of the two of you sent to all of your guests. This will start the excitement and let them know something super special is coming soon. The possibilities for Save The Date Cards with a photo are endless! We have done these with dates written on the bottoms of shoes, on signs, signs being held by dogs, the sky is the limit on ideas! A creative wedding and engagement photographer will ready to help you with some great suggestions.
Trending guest book!
One great idea is a photo guest book. Many wedding photographers offer a guestbook option using the photos from your session. Engagement sessions San Diego are the best for these! These are a great way to commemorate the people that attended your wedding day and have more than their names written on a line in a formal guest book. With the photo guest book, your guests are able to enjoy all of your photos, and be able to leave you a personal note that you can look back to for years to come.
While doing an engagement session may add a little bit to your photography expense, our feeling is that it is an investment that is well worth it. Some photographers include engagement sessions in their collections. We have engagement sessions in all but one of our collections, but do also offer a discounted rate on the engagement session if it is added to any collection.
So YES, do it! The sky is the limit, think outside the box and let your imagination soar!
