Wedding Ring Photo in Succulents

Photo of wedding rings in a succulent bouquet

In drought troubled Southern California, succulents have replaced traditional flowers and foliage in many places, including wedding bouquets and decorations. The stark, often exotic and sometimes geometric shapes give an interesting twist to traditional decor. I worked for a wholesale nursery in a former life, one that specialized in succulents and cacti, so I know quite a bit about them. It's fun to see them incorporated in what I do now, too.
Here, we've use the stark, rigid shapes of the succulent leaves to set off the curve of the wedding rings. As wedding photographers, we are always delighted with new and challenging settings for our photographs.
This image was taken with a Canon 5D mkIII and Tamron 15-30 f2.8 VC using natural light. That Tamron lens is amazing, with a minimum focusing distance of only 4 inches! That gives an opportunity for some interesting perspectives and a wide angle like that expands the apparent distance between objects, the opposite of what a long lens does.
